Breaches of contract by the registry of .nowruz

Thu 11. Jul 2024, 12:13

The Istanbul-based Asia Green IT System Bilgisayar San. ve Tic. Ltd. Sti. appears to be in financial difficulties once again. On 3 July 2024, the Internet registry ICANN announced that the .nowruz top-level domain managed by Asia Green had been included in the Emergency Back-End Registry Operator (EBERO) program. The .uk registry Nominet has been appointed as the EBERO manager. ICANN wants to avoid domain losses and protect future owners of .nowruz domains. The reason given is that Asia Green has not fulfilled its contractual obligation for downtimes of the Registration Data Directory Service. Asia Green is also alleged to have failed to submit monthly reports and pay fees on time. At the same time, Asia Green was issued a warning and requested to remedy the breaches of contract by July 31, 2024. The risks for the community are likely to be limited, as only ten domains are currently registered under .nowruz. The extensions .pars, .shia, .tci and an internationalized top-level domain, which are also managed by Asia Green, have not reported any registrations, which is why ICANN has refrained from transferring them to the EBERO program as well. This is already the third warning letter for Asia Green, the last one dating back to June 2023. If Asia Green fails to remedy the violations, the Registry Agreement (RA) with ICANN could be terminated. The registered domain names would then be permanently transferred to a new registry.
